The Girls of Anzea ’80

St Anne’s School, Molete Ibadan is the oldest female secondary school in Nigeria. It is fondly called Anzea.

In 1975 a group of girls aged 9 to 12 went through the rigours of common entrance and 2 separate interview sessions, one lasting 2 days. The top students and some who joined them over the course of the 5 years secondary school program, graduated in 1980. These are the Anzea Class of 80. They are all over the globe, from Lagos to London, New York to Toronto, Adelaide to Atlanta, Calgary to California, Chicago to Connecticut, Sagamu to Ibadan, Manchester to Maryland, Los Angeles to North Carolina, to Cape Town and everywhere in between. Did I mention that you can touch their love for each other and for GOD?

On February 24, 2015, Lola decided to form the group on WhatsApp, she had just visited Nigeria from her USA base and felt we needed a platform to be in constant touch. If only she knew! The first few days, most of the people she signed on didn’t sleep a wink. There was so much to catch up with. Imagine finally being in touch with people you had not seen in 35 years.  We laughed so much; members of our families had to protest for being left out.

On your birthday, messages start coming in the moment it is midnight and won’t stop till the middle of the day after.  Cough, everybody else catches a cold. You are sure that they have your back if nobody else does.

So, ladies and gentlemen allow me to introduce to you the girls of Anzea Class of 1980
