Hon. Justice Latifat Folami (nee Kabiawu) was born on the 26th day of October 1967, she was called to the Nigerian Bar on16th Dec. 1992 upon qualifying as a barrister and solicitor of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with a second class (upper division) degree from the Nigerian Law School. She holds a Bachelors degree in Psychology (1987), a degree in law (LL.B, 1991) and a postgraduate degree in Law (LL.M, 1999) all from the University of Lagos.
In 2014 she earned a doctorate degree in Leadership and Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
She worked briefly as a banker and thereafter practiced in various law firms in Lagos State before her appointment as a Magistrate in October 1996. She was elected Chairman of the Magistrates Association in Nigeria (Lagos State branch) in 2004, she held this position until April 2006, later the same year she was elected National President Magistrates’ Association on 1st December 2006, a position she held up to May 2009.
Hon. Justice Folami had an extensive career on the lower bench of the Lagos State Judiciary, spanning 13 years, she progressed through the ranks from Magistrate grade I to Chief Magistrate Grade I and was elevated to the High bench in the Lagos State Judiciary in September 2010. Justice Folami was a Deputy Chief Registrar of the Lagos State Judiciary between 2006 and 2008 and was later appointed the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary she was made a judge in 2008.
Lati Folami is the recipient of Lagos State Judiciary (2003), Magistrates Association of Nigeria (Lagos Branch, 2008), Magistrates Association of Nigeria (National, 2014) and Law Society, Lagos State University (2011) merit awards.
In her leisure time, she enjoys swimming, aerobics and horticulture. Justice Folami is a member of Ikoyi Club 1938 and the Muslim Association of Nigeria (MAN). She is happily married to Sabitu Olayinka Folami, and they are blessed with three children.
